Weāve all heard the line: a picture is worth a thousand words. It gets stitched onto motivational posters, tossed around by anyone with a camera, treated as a nice sentiment rather than something with actual teeth.
On a jobsite, it stops being a platitude. Try describing a beam connection over the phone, or arguing about where a wall was actually supposed to go, using words alone. Words are slippery. Drawings arenāt.
Construction runs on drawings, but managing them is a mess more often than not. A printed set goes out of date the moment a revision lands in someoneās inbox. Crews work off the wrong version because nobody told them a new one existed. A defect gets logged with a vague photo and a āsee attachedā instead of a pin on the actual spot it happened. None of this is really anyoneās fault, itās just what happens when the drawings that matter most live scattered across email threads, USB sticks, and the cab of a site truck instead of one place everyone can trust.
Thatās the gap Drawings closes in Novade: one place to store, update, and act on the drawings a project actually runs on, open on a phone or browser wherever youāre standing, synced for offline use when the site has no signal at all.
Always the right version
Upload a new version of a drawing and, once published, it becomes the default for everyone on the project. No more chasing down whoās working off last monthās PDF. Every earlier version stays accessible too (swipe or use the navigation arrows to step back through them), and anything pinned to an old version stays pinned on the new one, so history never gets lost in a re-upload.
Pin it where it happenedĀ
A defect noted in a comment is useful. A defect pinned to the exact spot on the drawing is unambiguous. Tasks, forms, inspections, and defects can all be pinned directly onto a drawing, marked up, commented on, and tagged to notify whoever needs to see them. Filter by status or assignee to cut the clutter, then export the whole thing, drawing plus pinned items, as a PDF report when you need a record.
Seeing it in contextĀ
For projects working with 3D, Novadeās Premium plan includes a BIM viewer right in the browser, in IFC format, so teams can view and mark up the model on site without needing the tool it was authored in. Itās for reference and markup only, not authoring, but thatās usually all a site team needs.
Power user tipĀ
Novade only supports a single level of folders, so donāt try to nest your way out of a messy structure. Pick a flat, consistent naming convention up front (BlkA_L1, BlkA_L2, BlkB_L1) and lean on tags for anything that needs a second dimension, like discipline or trade.
So yes, a pictureās worth a thousand words. On a jobsite, a good drawing might save you a few thousand headaches too. Give Drawings a look, and if you get stuck, check out our articles or reach out to us at novade.support@novade.net.
