Overview

One of the largest Norwegian road project till date, the E18 motorway will help facilitate the city’s development allowing more people to travel by public transport, bicycle, or on foot. Contracted by Nye Veler, a company owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport, Eiffage partnered with Novade to connect site management with its planning, reporting and document management systems to improve efficiency and control throughout the project.

PROJECT

    • E18 motorway in Norway for Nye Veier, a company owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport
    • Design to delivery stage
    • Built two Langangen bridges spanning 96 metres and 112 metres respectively as well as the Grenland bridge – a cable stayed bridge spanning 330 metres
    • Construction of 10 kilometres of 2×2 lane motorway, largely underground
    • Excavation of two twin-tube tunnels spanning a total of 7.6 kilometres: the Bjønnås tunnel (2.5 kilometres) and the Grenland tunnel (5.1 kilometres)

GOALS

    • Reduce paperwork on site
    • Implementation of a collaborative platform for BIM Level 3 where all the software is connected – right from 3D modelling, scheduling, site and document management
    • Capture and analyse site data in 3D model
    • Streamline operations

ISSUES

    • Reduced productivity due to copious amount of paperwork
    • Usage of multiple systems making it challenging to consolidate and view all data in one place
    • Huge amount of time spent analysing data in different systems

CONTRACTOR

BENEFITS

    • Increased transparency and communication with key stakeholders (clients) due to better access to quality documentation
    • Huge time and cost savings
    • Information available across systems automatically following data capture in one system
    • Enhanced visibility on project progress with real-time data available in one place
    • Improved productivity and traceability

OUTCOMES

    • Successful development of multiple APIs (Novade ↔ tpPLM) to exchange data (planning in Oracle Primavera P6, 3D model “QUADRI trimble”, and document management system “tpPLM”
    • Site data from quality documents, inspections and test plans (ITPs), non-conformities synced to tpPLM
    • Visibility on key metrics – real start and end date, volume,
Streamlined and automated site processes with digital workflows
    • Significant time saved with the digitalisation and optimisation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and quality documentation
    • Established a better client relationship
    • Easy retrieval of PDF reports to share with key stakeholders
    • Systematic completion during construction phase
